Urologist
Ioannis Efthymiou, MD, MSc, FEBU, graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1995 with the grade “Very Good.” He specialized in the Urology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens “Evangelismos” and holds, with distinction, a postgraduate degree from Democritus University in “Specialization in Endourology.”
Since January 2024, he has held the position of Coordinating Director of the Urology Clinic at “Evangelismos-Polyclinic” Hospital and at the same time collaborates with private medical centers in Athens.
After obtaining his specialty, he received the Alexandros Deliveliotis Scholarship and further trained in Endourology and stone disease at the Scottish Lithotripter Centre in Edinburgh. As an NHS Director, he was granted a training leave and went to the Smith Institute of Urology in New York, where he further trained in percutaneous nephrolithotripsy.
With many years of surgical experience, he successfully performs operations across the entire spectrum of Endourology and urologic oncology (radical prostatectomy, cystectomy, nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy and partial nephrectomy, rigid and flexible ureteronephroscopy, laser lithotripsy, endoscopic management of ureteral strictures and tumors of the collecting system, and percutaneous nephrolithotripsy).
He performs a large number of endoscopic procedures on the lower urinary tract (TURIS prostatectomy, urethral strictures, removal of bladder tumors) and also applies minimally invasive techniques such as Rezum.
He is a member of the Hellenic (EOE), European (EUA), and American Urological Association (AUA).
During his scientific career, he has received four scholarships as well as a commendation from the Hellenic Urological Association for ranking first among Greek residents in the 2004 EBU written exams.
He has participated in many Greek and international conferences, receiving to date four awards for scientific papers and honorary distinctions.
He has authored a large number of scientific papers published in international journals and has also contributed chapters to books abroad.
