AESTHETIC ORTHOPEDICS – HEIGHT INCREASE
Aesthetic orthopedics and height increase are modern surgical methods that allow for the lengthening of the lower limb bones, improving stature and body harmony. The most common technique is the Ilizarov method, in which a controlled fracture is made in the bones (usually the tibia or femur) and then the bone is gradually lengthened by about 1 millimeter per day with the help of an external device that stabilizes and supports the bone during regeneration. The entire process lasts several months, including the lengthening period and the maturation phase of the new bone, during which the device remains in place to ensure stability.
The procedure is performed under general or spinal anesthesia and the hospital stay is short. Gradual mobilization begins from the first day with a walker and crutches, and after 1–2 months patients walk with full weight bearing. The height increase achieved usually ranges from 5 to 7 centimeters, depending on the needs and characteristics of each patient. At the same time, any leg deformities can also be corrected so that the aesthetic result is harmonious and natural.
The method is intended both for people with short stature for medical or psychological reasons, and for those who desire aesthetic improvement. Although the procedure is demanding and requires patience and cooperation, the results are permanent and significantly improve the patient’s quality of life and self-confidence.
