- Perforator flaps have recently been introduced as a coverage option for the knee, offering significant advantages such as:
- Low donor site morbidity
- Long pedicle and wide arc of rotation
When a free flap is chosen, the selection of recipient vessels is a decisive factor for the success of the reconstruction.
Based on published experience, the authors propose a reconstruction algorithm based on the following criteria:
- Presence of a three-dimensional defect
- Size and location of the wound
- Presence or absence of infection
