Plastic Surgeon
I was born in Athens and grew up in Nea Filadelfeia, with family roots in Kalavryta as well as the unforgettable ancestral homelands of Smyrna and Constantinople. My studies were completed entirely in Greece, starting at PADA, where I received my first degree as a Health Visitor. After my military service in the Special Forces of the Marines, I continued at the Medical School of Patras, from which I graduated with distinction.
At the age of 26, I served for one year as a scientific associate at the University Gynecology Clinic of Aretaieio Hospital in Athens, focusing on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and gynecological cancer under the direction of Professor K. Kreatsas. During my studies at the Medical School of Patras, I started my family of four and, through an ASEP competition, was appointed to Aigio Hospital with my first degree. My duties were varied, including contributing to the drafting of operational plans for various NHS hospitals, and I was a Board Member of Medical Scientific Societies related to Prevention and Health Education.
I then transferred to the General Oncology Hospital “Agioi Anargyroi” and began and completed my two-year specialization in General Surgery at Patision Hospital, where I participated in and performed numerous general surgery operations, from simple inguinal hernias to major bowel anastomoses. My presence at conferences, with both oral presentations and posters, has always been continuous, and I personally author all my presentations. My conscious decision to complete the four-year specialty of Plastic Surgery at the “I. IOANNOVITS” Clinic at G. Gennimatas Hospital, the second largest hospital in the country, allowed me to specialize in all types of plastic surgery procedures—from aesthetic surgeries to microsurgery under a microscope, culminating in a thumb reattachment surgery, a procedure performed only a few times in Greece.
I was the responsible physician for the intubated burns unit for two and a half years. I participated in many Plastic Surgery conferences worldwide, representing my clinic with presentations and receiving distinctions and awards for many of them. At the same time, I authored publications in international journals, all of which have numerous citations, and some of my review articles are taught in Medical Schools in Greece and abroad. I was a member of the hospital’s Scientific Council, representing the residents.
I completed my specialization successfully and with distinction on my first attempt at the specialty exams. As a qualified specialist, I worked for two years in the Plastic Surgery Department of the hospital where I held a permanent position (GONK), and subsequently, I was selected and appointed as an attending plastic surgeon at the Plastic Surgery Clinic of the largest hospital in the country and the Balkans, “Evangelismos.”
During my years working there, in addition to being awarded 1st Prize for Quality in Health Service Provision for achieving the highest documented survival rate (77%) for burn victims from mass disasters, I have continued my academic work, conducting my PhD at the Medical School of Athens at the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens, focusing on burns and growth factors. I mentor and guide new residents in writing presentations and publications and systematically train them during the procedures I perform. I have also worked as an instructor in secondary education and IEK (vocational training institutes) in anatomy and pathophysiology, subjects I am fluent in and consider a personal hobby. I have participated in several hospital committees regarding the specifications of biomedical products, aiming to reduce the cost of health service provision.
I have been a member of the Committee of Thermal Springs and Resources of the Ministry of Tourism as a Special Scientist for the past five years, and I have personally organized the integration of thermal springs with EOPYY and the Ministry of Health, so that the use of thermal spa towns can once again be included in physicians’ therapeutic options and to strengthen Medical Tourism. In recent years, I have performed thousands of procedures under general and local anesthesia in the field of reconstructive and plastic surgery, including skin and soft tissue tumors, malignant melanoma, and complete surgical restoration of hidradenitis suppurativa in a single surgical stage with a success rate above 99%. In the field of aesthetic Plastic Surgery, I have an extensive record of procedures in bariatric, anti-aging, as well as minimally and non-invasive aesthetic restoration using the most modern injectable therapies.
